My model making obsession began in 1963 when, at the tender age of 4½ my father brought home an Airfix 1:72nd scale Hurricane. The intention was to build it together on the following Saturday but I had other ideas and built it on my own before my father returned from work the next day.
I continued modelling on and off until the age of 15 when I discovered the wonders of alcohol, girls & also cars. I began a 25 year career in the motor industry that culminated with my working on Aston Martins, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Maseratis, Porsches and other high end sports cars.
Following a series of health problems in 1999 I rediscovered modelling after finding a Pocher 1/8th scale Fiat F2 kit I had purchased at least ten years beforehand. After finishing this model I entered it into the 1/12th and larger scale category at the IPMS Millenium show in 2000 where it took the gold. It was also at this time that I joined Harrow Modelling Society.
After this success & a highly commended for my Airfix 1:24th scale James Bond "Little Nellie" autogyro, the bug had bitten again and I now find myself producing what have been called "scary" models which is a bit rich as my good friends include two model magazine editors and some of the best modelmakers in the World.
Recent times have seen me working in collaboration with fellow modelmakers Alan Bottoms and Nick Wigman to produce the Car Modellers Handbook, more details can be found under the tab in the top menu. I am also on occasion to be found working with Russell Jacob of SATA Airbrushes UK as an Airbrush demonstrator.
I would like to record my grateful thanks to Alan Bottoms, Richard Franks, Marcus Nicholls, Roger Brown, Steve Cumber, Nick Wigman, Andy Ieronymides & Mamas Pitsillis for their help, support, encouragement and sense of humour over the years. The greatest thanks however, are reserved for my long suffering wife and greatest critic Barbara & my family, without whom I would have a much smaller ego & a healthier bank balance.
